Grandpa’s Classroom
This was my sanctuary as a child, my Grandfather’s allotment and in particular his shed. He would take me there away from the physical and emotional abuse of my mother. I could smell the flowers, make mud pies, plant seeds and chase the chickens without fear. I spent many happy hours seated at the table you see with a cup of tea, while grandpa taught me to count with the little dish of seeds. He also painted the gable end of his shed with blackboard paint, so I could learn my letters by copying him. He is the person who taught me the value of education and gave me my love of nature and gardening.
