Low Tide Treasure Hunters & Shoreline Gulls

Low Tide Treasure Hunters & Shoreline Gulls

I bought the two very large canvases in a sale in 2024, as they were ‘too good a bargain’ to not buy. They stood in the corner of my studio for many months and I would look at them wondering what best to use them for. While I was visiting Holy Island in Northumberland I saw the birds on the shoreline and I just knew that was what the canvases were for.
I returned to my studio and worked on the pair in tandem, ensuring I used the same colours for both and move between them.

When completed and I looked at them I could smell the sea air and the seaweed, as well as hear the wind and the birds. I was almost tempted to keep them but was very happy when they were bought as a pair, so they remain together.

The shoreline treasure seekers and the gliding gulls of the North Sea. I envy their freedom and ability to soar.
