I carried a camera with me every day for around 24 years, which stopped in 2013. For me that was my version of a sketch book, as drawing is not something I have ever really loved.
I don’t think I will ever keep a traditional sketchbook, although I have been playing with charcoal recently, drawing birds mostly, watching them from the window of my studio and during my holiday in the Lake District earlier this year.
I have started to return to using a camera too, not carrying one everywhere yet, but I have one at home and one at my studio to capture anything that catches my eye.
Today that was the seagulls soaring in the sunshine outside my bedroom window. Cloudless and carefreeā¦.
